A public institution awarding a state qualification. French nationals are exempt from international tuition fees, an exemption the institution values at €10,000 to €15,000 a year. The indicative annual budget then drops to around CA$14,144, against roughly CA$38,320 for other international students.
The technical DEC in 3D Animation and Computer Imagery runs three years. Five specialisation paths open in year three: modelling, character rigging, animation, environment and lighting, visual effects. Those specialisations let you position yourself on a specific pipeline role before entering the market.
Admission is more open than in the private sector: a secondary diploma for Quebec students, the equivalent of year eleven for international ones, with no documented entrance exam or compulsory portfolio. Formal bridges to bachelor degrees exist with UQAT, UQAC, UQAM and Université Laval.
Matane is a small town in a rural region, far from the Montreal employment basin, with a lower cost of living and close supervision.
