Animation school

Switzerland

Address:

Rue du Port-Franc 9, 1003 Lausanne, Suisse

The breadth of techniques taught is what sets Ceruleum apart: 2D, cut-out, 3D, puppet stop-motion and motion design. Puppet work in particular remains uncommon and is worth the trip if that path interests you.

Another technical specificity: the 3D software taught is Blender, not Maya. That points toward a more independent, open-source profile, which may be an asset or a constraint depending on the sector you are targeting.

The European Bachelor in Animation Cinema and Digital Animation runs three years, with an optional one-year preparatory class. Admission goes through a competitive entrance exam and an interview with a portfolio presentation, which is rare on this list. Artistic exceptions exist for talented candidates without the required qualification.

The school states that its graduates go on to masters at Gobelins or HSLU in Lucerne: the bachelor is therefore as much a springboard as a terminal qualification.

The degree is accredited by FEDE and ECTS-compliant, but it is not a Swiss HES title: that distinction matters if you are aiming at the Swiss public academic system. CHF 16,000 a year, plus a CHF 1,300 materials package in year one.
