Ecole emile cohl Lyon
Animation school
France
Address:
1 Rue Félix Rollet, 69003 Lyon, France
The school places drawing at the centre of the course. Its stated mission is to fight the gradual disappearance of drawing as a way of representing the world in art education.
In practice: three full years of fundamentals, drawing, observation, perspective and artistic culture, in the Dessinateur praticien course, before any specialisation. The model is close to a drawing academy, the opposite of short technical courses.
Specialisation arrives in years four and five: animation cinema, games, illustration, comics, 3D drawing, digital publishing and multimedia graphics. 3D animation is therefore one specialisation among several, preceded by three years of artistic grounding.
Admission runs through Parcoursup and is selective, with an explicit requirement on drawing level already achieved rather than potential. A one-year drawing foundation course is available beforehand.
RECA member, Qualiopi certified, with RNCP level 7 titles in animation cinema and in games, and the Dessinateur praticien course at level 6. A second campus in Angoulême.
Around €8,000 a year according to a third-party source, the official fees page being inaccessible.
