Animation school
France
Address:
1 Rue de la Charente, 16000 Angoulême, France
A directing school attached to the Magelis image cluster, a few hundred metres from the Angoulême International Comics Festival. Its real distinguishing feature: it teaches all three techniques, traditional and digital 2D, 3D, and stop-motion, where most French competitors stick to 3D.
A three-year Animation Cinema bachelor, then a two-year Designer-Director master. The master is explicitly oriented toward the author-director: building a personal world and language, culminating in a graduation short. Teaching leans heavily on collective film production shown at festivals, from Annecy to the Cartoon Forum.
The entrance exam is serious: an application with portfolio and demo reel, a €65 fee, an eliminating written storyboard test taken remotely on three set subjects, then a 45-minute individual interview assessing your artistic vision and your knowledge of animation cinema.
Consular status as a school of the Charente Chamber of Commerce, which opens CROUS grants: around 30 % of students hold bursaries. Member of the RECA and Magelis networks.
2026-2027 rates: €7,900 a year for the bachelor, €7,285 for the master. The fee includes computer equipment, software licences, supplies and festival accreditations.
