Esma Montreal

Animation school
Canada
Address:
3536 Boul. Saint-Laurent, Montréal, QC, Canada
Despite the shared name, this course is distinct from ESMA's five years in France. It is a Quebec AEC over six sessions, 24 months and 1,830 hours: a short, dense, vocational course.
The format corresponds to retraining or topping up other studies. AEC status imposes restrictive admission conditions that in practice exclude most students coming straight out of Quebec secondary school. You must have interrupted your studies for at least two consecutive sessions, be covered by an employer agreement, or have completed at least a year of post-secondary study.
Admission also requires an interview and a portfolio of ten to fifteen recent drawings, with a solid traditional drawing level expected. A preparatory programme exists for candidates who are not ready. Applications accepted year-round, intake in September.
Full pipeline: Maya, Houdini, Nuke, RenderMan, ZBrush, Substance, Photoshop. The school is located in Montreal, one of the world's largest VFX employment basins.
The published rates date from 2022: CA$24,950 for Canadians and CA$32,500 for international students across the whole programme.
