ESMA Nantes

Animation school
France
Address:
6 Rue René Siegfried, Nantes, France
Nantes is one of six French campuses in a group that runs the same syllabus everywhere: the reason to choose this one is geographic and tied to the local ecosystem, not pedagogical. Worth knowing when deciding between ESMA campuses.
The 3D Animation & Visual Effects course runs five years, with a preparatory Entertainment year then four years of professional cycle. Teaching is heavily production-oriented: Maya, Houdini and Pixar's RenderMan, with a course that culminates in team short films that are the school's real showcase.
Worth knowing: the group's English-language path is only open in Bordeaux, Lyon and Montpellier. It is not available in Nantes. Intensive French courses are offered to international students instead.
Admission with the baccalauréat in year one, or the baccalauréat plus a year of related higher education beyond that. Online application, reply within 48 hours, motivation interview with portfolio assessment for entry into years two to four.
RNCP level 7 title, RECA member. At group level: first school worldwide for Excellence in 3D Animation Production at the 2025 Rookies, and a BAFTA Student Award in 2025 for the short film Trash from the 2024 cohort.
€6,380 in year one, €7,980 a year thereafter, plus €200 in annual registration fees.
