Gobelins

Animation school

France

Address:

73 Boulevard Saint-Marcel, 75013 Paris, France

The historic global benchmark for French animation cinema, with a programme launched in 1975 and around 1,200 students across all departments. Ranked first animation school in the world by Animation Career Review for 2026, for the sixth consecutive year, across nearly 200 institutions assessed.

The partnership with the Annecy Festival since 1985 is an asset nobody else has: it led to a campus opening in Annecy and gives students unmatched festival exposure.

A decisive practical point: the Animator and Animation Film Director bachelor is taught entirely in English, which makes Gobelins directly accessible to non-French speakers. ESMA, Rubika and ISART do not allow that.

The offering is the broadest on this list: a one-year foundation course on campus or remotely, a one-year online post-secondary path, three-year bachelors, a one-year 3D character animation specialisation open at two years of higher education, a work-study professional degree, and two-year masters.

The entrance exam is highly selective: a portfolio demonstrating drawing ability and an aptitude for expressing movement, then an oral interview.

Consular status, RECA member. The student short Oktapodi was Oscar-nominated in 2009. Published 2024 bachelor outcomes: 99 % pass rate and 79 % in work at seven months.

€10,500 a year for EU students, €15,500 outside the EU.
