La Poudriere
Animation school
France
Address:
La Cartoucherie - Pôle de l'image Animée, Rue de Chony, 26500 Bourg-lès-Valence, France
This is a directing school, not a technical animation school, and the distinction is crucial. It does not train production animators but writer-directors of animated films. It is therefore a second-cycle destination rather than a general post-secondary course.
The alumni record is the strongest argument and it is verifiable: Benjamin Renner, César for best animated film in 2013 and 2018, Rémi Chayé, audience award at Annecy in 2015, Lucrèce Andreae, César for animated short in 2018, Gabriel Harel, César in 2020, Éric Montchaud, audience award at Annecy in 2014.
The course runs two years, in initial or continuing format. Admission is by competitive exam with no qualification requirement: pre-selection on application, then written tests and interviews. Cohorts are very small.
Non-profit association status, recognised by the Ministry of Culture. RECA member, level I RNCP certification, member of the European Cartoon network, with a partnership with The Animation Workshop in Denmark on literary adaptation.
Located at the Cartoucherie, immediately next to Folimage. Fees are not published.
