The most useful feature of this course is its branching point: specialisation is chosen in year two between three paths, VFX and motion graphics, technical 3D oriented toward technical direction, or 3D animation. If pure animation does not suit you, you can switch without starting over.
The Bachelor of Art & Design in 3D Animation & VFX runs three years at NZQA level 7, 420 credits. The final year runs under studio production conditions, with industry-level group projects.
Admission requires NCEA Level 3 or equivalent, or a level 4 qualification in a related field, the latter waived for applicants over 20. A general portfolio is required, with 3D models and visualisations particularly valued.
The geographic argument is real: the New Zealand ecosystem, with Weta in Wellington, is within reach. The course is available on campus or online, on a 6-star Green Star certified campus that is also an Adobe Creative Campus.
