A public multidisciplinary university rather than an isolated art school, and that is where the interest lies if your profile sits between animation, games and interactive work. The Bachelor of Design (Animation and Interactive Media) runs three years, with February and July intakes.

The course covers a wide field: 2D, 3D, motion graphics, special effects and interactive media. Teaching runs through briefs and studio projects, including in the theoretical subjects, which avoids the usual gap between theory and practice. A Master of Animation, Games and Interactivity extends the path.

Admission works on multiple criteria with a compulsory portfolio assessment handled by a dedicated office. RMIT claims first place in Australia and New Zealand and eighth worldwide for animation studies, a ranking displayed by the institution without a source cited on the page.

On budget: AU$48,000 a year for international students at 2027 rates. Australian students access subsidised places whose cost is not displayed. Melbourne City campus.
