Waide somme

The public alternative to the private animation schools: €920 a year in registration fees plus €55 for the application, against roughly €9,000 a year in the private sector.

Waide Somme is the animated digital images department of the Amiens School of Art and Design. A three-year DNA carrying licence status, a five-year DNSEP carrying master status. The scope runs from 2D and 3D animation to video games and virtual reality.

A stated teaching distinction: software and production methods are taught from the first year, whereas in most public art schools technique arrives later in the course.

The qualification remains an art school degree rather than a professional title, which points toward a more authorial, freer profile with a genuine grounding in general culture. Entry by competitive exam, assessing drawing, software and film culture. RECA member.
